Position Overview 

We provide in-depth, expert veterinary behavioral medicine services utilizing veterinary medicine and the science of learning to create tailored and comprehensive diagnostic and treatment plans. Our patient-centered, client-tailored, and doctor-led approach means we work with families as a team, empowering pet parents by giving them the tools they need to help the animals in their care.  

The Veterinary Behavior Center is seeking a Behavior Therapy Technician to support our veterinarians and clinical team. This role supports patient care, client education, and behavior therapy services in a specialty veterinary setting. The Behavior Therapy Technician assists with doctor appointments, conducts treatment appointments as directed, and supports administrative and educational initiatives of the practice.

All duties are performed under the direction and supervision of a licensed veterinarian, in accordance with clinic protocols and applicable state and federal regulations.

Key Responsibilities  

  • Conduct treatment appointments as directed, including:
    • Design and instruction of behavior and management plans
    • Coaching clients and patients through behavioral therapy protocols
    • Educating clients on behavioral tools and products
    • Preparing discharge instructions
    • Completing thorough medical record keeping
  • Maintain accurate medical and administrative records
  • Provide administrative support to ensure a smooth patient and client experience, including client and patient file creation, appointment scheduling, and related coordination
  • Assist in doctor appointments, including obtaining patient history, record keeping, low-stress handling and restraint, observation of body language, client flow support, invoicing, scheduling follow-up appointments, and cleaning and resetting exam rooms
  • Respond to client inquiries regarding general clinic information, appointment scheduling, and appointment expectations
  • Serve as a primary point of contact for client support between appointments via phone and email, providing information regarding clinic services, fees, behavioral therapy coaching, medications as directed, and general clinic information
  • Communicate effectively with doctors regarding patient progress through medical records and established communication pathways
  • Demonstrate professionalism, courtesy, and compassion in all interactions with clients and patients
  • Manage assigned appointment schedules as requested
  • Handle and restrain animals in a low-stress, safe, efficient, and compassionate manner
  • Train other team members as directed
  • Develop and participate in educational, clinical, and marketing materials and events as directed
  • Participate in auxiliary client support services, including workshops, classes, courses, and group sessions, as directed
  • Assist with maintaining cleanliness and organization of public areas, exam rooms, supplies, and equipment
  • Demonstrate initiative, teamwork, and effective time management
  • Recognize and respond appropriately to urgent patient or safety concerns by notifying appropriate personnel
  • Follow clinic safety guidelines and applicable OSHA and DEA regulations
  • Perform other duties as assigned
Skills & Knowledge
  • Knowledge of procedures used for receiving, treating, and scheduling patients
  • Knowledge of low-stress methods of animal restraint and body language assessment
  • Ability to apply handling and behavioral knowledge to individual animals
  • Knowledge of principles and processes for providing client services
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills and efficient documentation abilities
  • Knowledge of learning theory and the science of learning
  • Ability to work independently while accepting direction
  • Ethical and professional conduct
  • Understanding of the human-animal bond
  • Ability to multi-task and prioritize work effectively
  • Personal body awareness and movement control to minimize patient stress
  • Critical thinking and sound judgment
  • Certifications such as CDBC, CPDT-KA, CSAT, KPA, CTC or similar are a plus but not required. 

Work Environment

This position involves working with animals that may exhibit fear, anxiety, or aggression and may include exposure to bites, scratches, animal waste, loud noises, and emotionally charged client situations.

The Behavior Therapy Technician does not diagnose conditions or prescribe medications. All services are provided under veterinary supervision in accordance with the Colorado Veterinary Practice Act, OSHA workplace safety standards, and applicable state and federal regulations.

Compensation $24–27 per hour base pay, plus commission opportunities
